Fatwa CenterPaying Zakah for brother and sister
Question
I have two brothers who live with my father and mother with their wives and kids in the same house and they eat and live together. I have also one sister and they prepare for her marriage soon. I live alone with my wife and son beside my work and I have money. Can I pay my Zakah elmal for my brothers and sister to help them or I cannot do that because they live with my father.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. If your brothers are from those who deserve Zakah because of their poverty or need or because they are among the Zakah recipients then there is no objection to your giving them your Zakah. Allah knows best.
