I am asking about hiding something from my husband. I told my husband about half the salary that I earn because every pound we have was spent in any thing event if it is not important from my point of view. I want to draw your kind attention that we have a son about one and half years old that need to secure his life and to make the necessary safety for his coming education as you know the school fees are very expensive. So I want to know it is wrong to hide half the salary from him for our future and any unexpected events.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The wife's salary is her own right with which she is fully free to deal the way she likes, provided that she does not deal with it in an unlawful way. It is not necessary that the husband knows what his wife owns of money. She has the right to conceal it partially or completely from him, especially if there is a benefit behind doing so. The wife, however, may not tell lies on her husband, rather she may resort to equivocation, that is to say something, using an ambiguous kind of language, to make him understand something else. She may say, for example: "this is all what I have of money", meaning what she currently has inside her home, while she has, in fact, additional money outside her home. It is to be taken into consideration that such a style of language (equivocation or double entendre) is never to be used if it leads to the denial or abolishment of a right or the establishment of a wrong. We finally pray to Allah The Almighty to reward our dear sister, the questioner, for her keenness on rendering a helping hand to her husband in spending on their child and for her keenness on educating the child and bringing him up properly.
Allah knows best.
