Fatwa CenterHusband should express gratitude to his wife
Question
My husband never tells me whatever I do is good enough for him. I please all his friends and family. What can I do? And I really love him.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Carrying out the conventional services of a husband is compulsory on his wife. If she fulfills such responsibilities then she is no longer held responsible for any more work whether her husband gets satisfied with her services or not. However, a husband should express his gratitude to his wife for the services she provides him, his family and his guests. He should not neglect or degrade her services since doing so is not among the good characters or noble manners that are ordered in Shariah. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity….}[4:19]. Finally, we advise you to be patient with your husband and be kind with him according to your ability. Try your best to convince him using wisdom that you are fulfilling your entire obligation. May Allah guide him to the justice and truth. Allah knows best.
