Fatwa CenterStruggling in college but wants to marry
Question
I am a young male in college. There are many temptations in college and I don’t think I can take it any more. I try hard to keep my gaze down but I cant. I fast about 2 or 3 times a week but still feel very weak. I feel that my father can help me get married but he says he wants me to depend on myself. He won’t let me leave college to get a job and marry and doesn’t want to help me get married. My parents think that I am too young (20). I don’t know what to do. Whenever I go to college my Iman gets so weak and I feel so depressed. I don’t know what to do. Please advise me and make Du’a.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
We advise you to persist on steadfastness, keep away from women since it is the act of chastity which a Muslim is ordered. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And let those who find not the financial means for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allâh enriches them of His Bounty…..}[24:33]. It is difficult. This is why it is highly rewarded.
You may gain this goal by lowering your gaze from Haram, befriending good friends, being away from bad company, avoiding mixing with opposite sex, engaging yourself in what is beneficial and persisting in performing prayers. Also spending time in Islamic study circles, reading Islamic books and the biographies of good ancestors, keeping in mind the end of this life, i.e. death and grave and as well as being conscious of surveillance of Allah, are all helpful to keep one on the path of steadfastness.
Do not forget that, most importantly, you need to seek refuge in Allah imploring Him to protect you from evil and help you do good. Everyone who is helped by Allah gets success and whoever is rejected by Allah fails.
Try your best to convince your family to help you marry as soon as possible. We ask Allah to make you steadfast on the right path and safeguard you from all temptations.
