Question
Would you please advice whether it is accepted to travel in a work mission after 6 weeks of my husband death, considering that this would help me in gaining some extra money? I have three children; one of them is only 11 years old and an unmarried girl, 23 years old, and a boy in his last year of graduate studies (not married yet).
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
A woman during her waiting period after the death of her husband is not permitted to travel to perform Hajj or do other things.
This is the opinion of most of the scholars, including the four Imams.
If she fears about her safety, or her wealth, then it is permissible for her to move from one house to another house where she would be safe, and would secure her wealth, but without travelling.
Therefore, it is not permissible to travel for the reason mentioned.
