Can I remain as my husband’s only wife in paradise? I am living in a happy marriage with my husband who is good and faithful to me and he always tells me he desires no one else than me and will remain faithful for me in this life and in Paradise, Insha Allah. Is that possible? Or are the men of paradise "forced" to have many wives? I am also very jealous and I wouldn’t like to share my husband in heaven as I don’t have to share him in this world, Insha Allah! I am quite disturbed about this matter. Could you please give me any advice?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
If the husband of a Muslim woman in this world dies before his wife and she does not remarry after him then she will be his wife in Paradise if they are both among the people of Paradise.
There are many authentic Ahadith in this regard. Al Baihaqi reported in the Sunan that Hudaifah told his wife, "If you wish to be my wife in Paradise then do not remarry after my death because a woman is for the last husband she gets married to in this life”.
As regards polygamy in Paradise, it is something that Allah has bestowed on men and it does not cause any harm to women.
It is reported in Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim from the Hadith of Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said about the women of Paradise: “Every man (in Paradise) has two houris they are so beautiful that one could see their marrow through their leg bones and their flesh”.
Imam Ahmad, Tirmizi and Ibn Majah reported from the Hadith of Ai-Miqdam Bin Ma'adi Karib that the Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) stated that Allah has given six characteristic for a Shahid (Martyr) among which, “….and he will marry 72 houris”.
Nevertheless, the woman in Paradise will take pleasure from her husband, in the same way the husband would take pleasure from his wives. In Paradise a woman does not feel any prejudice or injustice because Allah has given her everything she desires.
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {There they will have all that they desire, and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at the All-Mighty, All-Majestic).}[50:35]. He also Says (interpretation of meaning): {….(there will be) therein all that the one's inner-selves could desire, all that the eyes could delight in, and you will abide therein forever.}[43:71].
In Paradise a woman does not see anything more beautiful than her husband, it is enough for her that she is one of his wives and she will be very happy about that.
In Paradise there is no envy or jealousy, Allah Says (interprtation of meaning): {“And We shall remove from their breasts any sense of injury (that they may have), (So they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones.}[15:47].
Allah knows best.
