We work for a public company and we use the company’s machines and equipment to copy some Islamic articles so that others can benefit from them. We also listen to the lectures of Sheikhs and Daaiyah and recordings of Qur’an on the computer. Please note that this does not conflict with work time and we only do this during our spare time, after finishing work. Is it permissible for us to do that? With regard to what is mentioned above, will repentance from that be sufficient? Sometimes we are too free, just waiting for calls for troubleshooting and we do the same by surfing for Islamic things and when it is time to pray we do our prayers at the mosque which is about a 5-minute walk. Is this allowed during working time but very free? As for non-Muslims, they go for long tea break and buy numbers for gambling. Some scholars say it is not allowed, but then is it better than idling and doing nothing. Please explain in details regarding all the above with support to Qur'an and Ahadith.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
It is unlawful for you to use this company’s machines and equipment unless the people in charge of this company permit you to do so, or unless the employees are accustomed to use such facilities without being against the rules of the company. This prohibition covers any advantage you get from it for yourself or for others regardless of whether this affects your job or not because you are entrusted with the property of the company that is under your reach.
So, you should hasten to repent for what you did and ask forgiveness from the manager of the company. If the latter forgives you that’s good, otherwise you should pay the value of what you took.
As for what your colleagues who indulge in (Bingo…etc) it is unlawful and you should call them to Islam. This should be done first by applying Islam in your deeds and words and in your good behaviour.
Allah reserves a great reward for anyone who succeeds to have a non-Muslim enter Islam on his/her hand.
May Allah guide us and you to what pleases Him.
Allah knows best.
