Is it allowed in Islam for a married couple especially, women to use an astrological method of ovulation?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
If what is meant by astrology is looking to the stars and orbits and linking that with some terrestrial matters, like impregnation and other things, then this is not permissible.
Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in Majmou’ Al-Fatawa: ‘Astrology which has the meaning of ruling and affecting (people and events), which is giving evidence to what occurs on Earth as having a relation to the conditions of the universe, as well as combining the forces in the universe with their corresponding forces on Earth. This is forbidden by the Book and the Sunnah and the consensus of the Ummah. It was also forbidden by all the Prophets.' Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {….and the magician will never be successful, no matter whatever amount (of skill) he may attain."}[20:69]. Allah further Says (interpretation of meaning): {Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They believe in Jibt and Tâghût and say to the disbelievers that they are better guided as regards the way than the believers (Muslims).}[4:51].
However, if what is meant is for the husband to regulate the time of having intercourse with his wife according to the time when the egg is ready for conception, or not ready for conception, then there is no harm in this.
Allah knows best.
