Question
I have a son he was born with Down syndrome. He is 4 years now, but he hasn’t been circumcised and his penis is too small for that. Kindly give me an advise what I have to do.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There is no specific age for circumcision even though it is better to get circumcised while still very young because circumcision during the early age causes less pain and heals rapidly.
It is also proved that the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) circumcised himself after he was eighty years old.
Therefore, there is no objection to delay the circumcision of the child especially if there is a considerable benefit in doing so.
The majority of Muslim scholars are of the opinion that circumcision is compulsory for men. That is also the preponderant opinion. However, some are of the opinion that it is merely a Sunnah act.
