Question
I would like to introduce an American man to the laws of marriage and divorce in Islam. Coming from the United States, he doesn't believe that in a Muslim marriage a man can divorce his wife by only uttering the word "Talaaq" and that his legal obligation won't go beyond Al Mahr and payment required to maintain the wife and the kids, if any. Can you provide me with an independent source that explains all that? Thanks

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
The rulings of marriage, divorce, etc. are thoroughly discussed in all books of fiqh. Some of these books have been translated into English. Know that talking to an alien man is not allowed for a woman except within the limits of necessity and provided respecting all the rulings of Shariah, like being in Hijab, not staying alone with him, and not talking seductively, etc. Instead, you have to contact Muslim scholars and Islamic Centres to carry out this task. Moreover, a kafir should be called first of all to believe in the Oneness of Allah, His Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and the similar fundamentals. There is no benefit in giving details about other such matters. Allah knows best.
