I love to wear gems like emerald, ruby etc. and love to use lots of perfume only Arabic likes ooud, etc. Please advise me that is Haraam or not. I heard that we should not put perfumes because it might attract Jinns and especially female Jinns. Stones I love to wear is the green stone and ruby. Some say that it has some powers. It is Haraam to wear stones and put perfumes. If any female Jinns come how can we avoid them?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The jurists have different opinions about men wearing precious stones - other than gold and silver - such as rubies. The most predominant opinion among the jurists is that it is disliked for men to wear such gems because this is a sign of the spendthrift which is forbidden. Moreover, by wearing jewelry of this kind, men will resemble women (in appearance) and this is also prohibited in Islam. Besides, some other jurists are of the opinion that it is prohibited to wear these gems, thus men should avoid wearing them so as to be on the safe side. As for the effect of wearing these gems on jinn, then we are not aware of any evidence about it.
As for your second question, it is desirable for men to use perfume as long as this perfume is not customarily known to be used by women. The following Hadeeth proves the desirability of using perfume by men. The Prophet said: "In this worldly life two things have been made dear to me, women and perfume, and the prayer is the comfort of my eyes."
We know of no evidence that perfume attracts jinn and this seems to be just superstition because Allaah legislated for us the use of perfume and encouraged it. Even if perfume has such an impact that it attracts jinn, a Muslim should not stop using perfume out of fear from jinn (just because he fears jinn).
Rather, a Muslim should protect himself by mentioning Allaah all the time whether he uses perfume or not because when a Muslim mentions Allaah, he is protected from Satan who is Allaah’s enemy.
In a long Hadeeth, the Prophet reported that the Prophet Yahya said to his people "A slave (of Allaah) can only protect himself from Satan by mentioning Allaah."
If a Muslim is afflicted by what he predominantly thinks to be a jinn, then he should seek refuge with Allaah and mention Him as much as possible.
Allaah Knows best.
