Question
I live in Austria and the lady whom I want to marry lives in Morocco. Her family and mine agreed to this. I will visit them next summer as I am working at the moment. So, is it permissible for me to get engaged by correspondence until our next appointment?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
First of all, we ask Allaah to facilitate your affairs.
As regards what you inquired about, which is getting engaged by correspondence, then there is no harm in this as the purpose is just informing the family of the fiancée that you wish to marry her.
