Is it true that the woman does not go out in her life except twice: once to her husband’s home, and the second time to her grave?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
What some lecturers mention that the woman does not go out in her life except twice: once to her husband's home (i.e. when she gets married), and the second time to her grave is not true. Indeed the wives of the Prophet his daughters and the wives of the companions used to go out of their homes to the mosque, to fight Jihaad (in the Cause of Allaah), to collect the dates from palm trees, to the markets, and to fulfil their needs and so forth. This is a well-known matter and they were the best Muslim women. However, it is more appropriate for a woman to remain in her home as Allaah Says [about women] (what means): {And abide in your houses.}[Quran 33:33]. Besides, she should not go out except for a need, and when she goes out, she should wear her Hijab and fulfil the requirements of going out.
Allaah Knows best.
