Question
Which companion of Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, was thrown in fire by Romans and saved?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The person who was thrown in the fire like Ibraaheem (Abraham) 
was Abu Muslim Al-Khawlaani, who was one of the outstanding scholars of the generation which followed the companions 
. He embraced Islam at the time of the Prophet 
but he did not meet him. He entered to Madeenah during the reign of Abu Bakr 
but after the Prophet's death. So, he was not a companion; the term companion means a person who met the Prophet and believed in him and died as such. He was thrown in the fire by Al-Aswad Al-'Ansi, in
The Romans do not have a story which resembles the above one, except the one of 'Abdullaah Ibn Huthaafah As-Sahmi. They wanted to throw him in a boiling pot, but they finally did not do so; however, they threw one of his friends before him in it but his name was not mentioned.
