Question
Assalamu-Alaikum. I would like to know the islamic ruling on nursery rhymes for children?Do these also come under the prohibition due to musical instruments etc. Or are they allowed , because they help children in there learning etc.(If they Do)? Please Explain. Thank you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Nursery rhymes with which musical instruments are used are forbidden due to the use of these musical instruments which are prohibited. The fact that these rhymes are helpful in teaching children, does not change their ruling unless they are free from musical instruments and do not invite or lead to what is forbidden.
