I know that when we call the azan we touch our ears, but do we do the same when saying the Iqaamah (second call the prayer, which signals that the prayer is about to start)? Meaning, when we say the Takbeer (saying: Allaahu Akbar) before the prayer, do we touch our ears as well? I hope you understand the question. Please kindly answer it. Thank you.

If I pray behind an imam who is praying the Maghrib and I do not think to myself, 'I intend to pray the Maghrib behind this imam', so I merely intended to pray the Maghrib and joined the imam in prayer, does that affect my prayer?

Assalaamu alaykum. Coming March 31th (a Friday), I have an exam that will take place during the afternoon. So I was thinking of combining the Friday prayer and the ‘Asr. I have seen on your website that you have stated that that is permissible for a traveler. I will not be traveling from one city to another, but the exam center is in a place of the.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. I asked a question regarding making mistakes in Surah Al-Faatihah during the prayer, and this is the answer that I received:
"With regard to your second question, note that Allaah is Most Merciful and Most Kind to His slaves and that He does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It is the duty of every Muslim to fear Allaah as.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. I am suffering from Waswaas (obsessive whisperings) at the moment and would like to know one thing. When I was praying the ‘Asr, while bowing specifically, my hands were touching my knees, but for a brief moment, one of my fingers was not, so I put it back into place. Is my prayer valid given that this is a pillar of the prayer?.. More
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Once, or a few times, I stood with the intention of praying a prayer (i.e. the Maghrib), and before I entered the prayer I had a thought which may have simply been the word ‘Ishaa'. Should this be considered as Waswaas (devilish whispers) trying to confuse me into thinking that my intention has changed.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. I read on one website that one of the pillars of the prayer is to stand up straight. Lately, I have had trouble with doubts about my back being straight enough, so I ended up repeating the 'Ishaa' prayermultiple times because I felt my spine lean back slightly or lean forward to the extent that I doubted whether I was standing up.. Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, Shaykh. I can smell garlic from my fingers/nails for even more than 20 hours even after washing them with soap many times. Is there any sin on me or did I do something disliked by praying with this smell? I use soap that is a little bit scented. (It is halal, praise be to Allaah.) I have a face wash.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. Recently, many of the people in the Fajr prayer in my mosque mistakenly made Sujood Tilaawah (prostration of recitation) while the imam was bowing. I got confused on whether I was to add a Rukoo’ (bowing) or perform Sujood Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness). Some people from the masjid added a Rukoo’. To avoid more mistakes in.. More
Assalaamu alaukum. The imam of our community asked me to ask you the following question: We live in Spain, in a place where it is difficult to appreciate the signs of the time of the Fajr due to several reasons, like the light in the streets. As the prayer is invalid if one prays before its time, the imam has decided to advance the azan 20 minutes from.. More
I and my family pray together. When we come to pray, do we have to say the athaan, or can we just start the prayer right away? Say that we pray the Thuhr at 3 PM, do we have to say the athaan then? I hope that my question is clear.

Assalaamu alaykum. I had a piece of hair in my mouth and decided to wait until after the end of the prayer to remove it. When I finished my Fajr prayer and tried to remove it, I could nt find it. I believe that I may have swallowed it. Do I need to repeat my prayer? I ask because hair is not food, and I thought that the ruling might be different. Also,.. More
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Where does one place their hands while bowing when praying while sitting? Is it the same as while standing; one one's knees? Assalaamu alaykum. I pray in a masjid on the third floor of a multipurpose building. There is a lift in which it is written that non-residents are not allowed to use it.
1) Now, as a non-resident, will I be sinful if I use the lift?
2) Sometimes, if I do not use that lift and use the stairs instead, I may miss the first Rak'ah (unit of prayer).. More
