Lowering the head when entering the Haram Mosque

Question

Why are we asked to lower our heads when we enter through the door of Babus Salaam and not to raise it until we come in view of the Holy Kaaba. This is done when one goes for Hajj or Umra. What is the significance of this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

A person who performs Hajj or 'Umrah is not ordered to lower his head when entering the Haram mosque in Makkah and not raise it up until he sees the Ka'bah, as there is no evidence about this neither in The Book of Allaah nor in the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

Therefore, believing in the legitimacy of this act and acting according to it is a religions innovation, as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever introduces an act that is not in accordance with ours (concerning religion), it will be rejected.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allaah Knows best.
