Question
Is everything predetermined before it happens?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
Everything in this universe was predestined by Allaah The Almighty. In a narration on the authority of ‘Ubaadah Ibn As-Saamit 
the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that Allaah The Almighty ordered the Pen to write everything that would happen until the advent of the Hour. [Abu Daawood]
Ahlus-Sunnah believe that whatever happens in this universe; provision, health, illness, poverty, wealth, marriage, divorce or anything else, was predestined and written by Allaah The Almighty Who knows everything in advance.
However, the fact that everything was predestined and written does not contradict the will and free choice of each and every human being. A person has his own will and choice but they are not totally independent, rather, they are subjected to the Power and Will of Allaah The Almighty.
