Question

What is the way of treating with the Quran and the Prophetic supplications? Does it benefit everyone who uses it?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Allaah The Almighty told us that the Quran is a cure. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means), {And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers.} [Quran 17:82]. Commenting on this verse, Shaykh As-Sa‘di may Allaah have mercy upon him said that there is evidence in this verse that the Quran is a remedy for the believers who believe in it. However, for the disbelievers, the verses of the Quran only increase them in loss.

There is a great deal of evidence that the Quran is a cure for those who believe in it. There are numerous opinions of scholars in this regard; for example, Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said that there is a remedy in the Quran for all the diseases of the heart and body. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):, {And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.} [Quran 29: 51] However, it only benefits those who use it in the best way and apply it faithfully with their belief.

With respect to the way of Ruqyah (treatment) with the Quran and the reported supplications from the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam; there are many Hadeeths that guide us to several methods.

For example, one can recite some of the Quran or these supplications then softly blow out moist breath onto one’s hands then pass one’s hands over his body or the site of the pain. Another way is to put one’s hand on the place of pain while saying the Ruqyah. This act was narrated in the Hadeeth of ‘Uthmaan ibn Abi Al-‘Aas may Allaah be pleased with him. [Muslim]

One can also blow out moist breath on the site of pain, then, pass his hands over it. One may also recite the Sharee‘ah-approved Ruqyah over a container of water then blow out moist breath over it or spit lightly in it. Imaam Ahmad may Allaah have mercy upon him used to say the Isti‘aathah (I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Satan), recite some Quran over it and pour this water over himself. Ibn Muflih may Allaah have mercy upon him also used to do so.

Allaah Knows best.
