I am a girl who suffers from severe pain in my right leg when I hear the Quran. Is it permissible for me to go to a man who treats with the Quran?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Allaah The Almighty did not create a disease without creating its cure. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, forbade us from seeking a cure through what is unlawful. [Abu Daawood]. There is no doubt that Ruqyah (healing with the Quran and Prophetic supplications) is one of the most important means of treatment. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.} [Quran 17: 82]
One should perform Ruqyah with the authentically narrated supplications from the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, such as: “Bismillaahi arqeek, min kulli shay’in yu’theek, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘ayni hasid, Allaahu yashfeek, bismillaahi arqeek. (In the Name of Allaah. I do Ruqyah for you from all that harms you, and from every harmful self and envious eye. May Allaah will cure you; and in the Name of Allaah The Almighty, I do Ruqyah for you).' [Muslim] The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also used to say: “Bismillaah (in the Name of Allaah)' three times; and then repeat seven times: 'A‘uthu bi‘izzatillaahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa 'uhaathir (I seek refuge with Allaah and with His Power from the evil that afflicts me and that which I apprehend). [Muslim]. There are many other narrated Hadeeths on this subject.
Consequently, we advise you to resort to Allaah The Almighty to cure your illness, to recite the Quran along with the reported supplications. If these acts lead you to be cured, which we hope for, then the objective would have been achieved. Otherwise, it is permissible to ask a man to do the Ruqyah, provided that he is known for abiding by the religion of Allaah The Almighty and that he uses Sharee‘ah-approved Ruqyah that does not include the smallest part of polytheism. If these conditions are not fulfilled, it is impermissible to go to such a man due to the reported prohibition from the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that anyone who goes to a soothsayer and asks him about anything, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. [Muslim]
Allaah Knows best.
