Question
Assalaamu alaykum. One my friends told me that if you urinate while taking bath in the bathtub, then bad days will come and it prevents the increase of provisions. While taking a bath, sometimes we feel we need to pass urine, and the place is cleaned by flushing with strong water. In Islam, is it true that urinating while taking a bath is not allowed? Both men and women have this natural feeling of wanting to urinate while taking a bath(Ghusl [ritual bath]). I would appreciate your advice. May Allaah reward you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
We are not aware of any evidence in the sharee'ah stating that if one urinates in the bath, he will be affected by a lack of livelihood and that he will have bad days. Rather, there are some texts that forbid urinating in the bathtub without mentioning any threat for the one who does so.
'Abdullaah ibn Mughaffal 
narrated that the Prophet forbade that a man urinates in the place where he has a bath. [Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]
After reporting the hadeeth, At-Tirmithi said:
“Some scholars disliked urinating in the place where one takes his bath, and they said that most of the waswaas (obsessive doubts about cleanliness) are caused by it; but some other scholars permitted it, among whom is Ibn Seereen, who was told, 'Most obsessive doubts are caused by it.' He answered, 'Our Lord is Allaah, Who has no partners [i.e. Allaah is the protector from the whispers of the devil].' Ibn Al-Mubaarak said, 'There is no harm in urinating in the place where one has a bath if water runs in it.'”
‘Awn Al-Ma’bood reads:
“Al-Haafith Waliyyud-Deen Al-Iraaqi said that a group of scholars interpreted the hadeeth to mean that (the ruling is thus) if the place of having a bath (shower) is soft and does not have a drain for the water, in a way that if urine falls in it, the soil absorbs it and it stays in it, but if it is solid with tiles and the like, in a way that the urine flows away and does not remain in it, or that it has a drain and the like, then there is no prohibition. An-Nawawi said in his commentary, 'It was forbidden to bathe in it if it was solid (without drains) and it is feared that he will be stained by his urine; if he does not fear this, such as if there is a drain for it, or the like, then it is not disliked.'”
