Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. What is the ruling on sending the Quran in PDF form to a non-Muslim? Or how about a link to a Quran website? These have the Arabic part of the Quran in them along with the translation.
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
We do not believe there is any harm in sending the translation of the Quran to a non-Muslim, even if it contained verses in Arabic. The rulings that apply to the Mus-haf (written/printed copy of the Quran) do not apply to the digital/electronic copy of the Quran with regard to the obligation of being in a state of ritual purity in order to touch it. Touching a digital copy of the Quran is not considered the same as touching the Mus-haf.
Shaykh ʻAbd Ar-Rahmaan ibn Naasir Al-Baraak said:
"Apparently, cell phones and similar devices on which the Quran may be saved are different from the Mus-haf because the letters of the Quran in these devices are different from their form on paper; rather, they exist in the form of frequencies that form the letters when summoned, so they appear on the screen and then disappear when one moves to something else. Based on this, it is permissible to touch the cell phone or tape on which the Quran is recorded, and it is permissible to read the Quran saved on it even if one is not in a state of purity."
Allah knows best.
