Few years ago (before my marriage), I had made the intention to do Umrah and went with another family. On our way there I got a feeling that I have got my periods. But I was embarrassed to let the family know so I continued my journey without confirming and performed Umrah. It was only after I reached home after completing my Umrah I checked to confirm if I had indeed got my periods. I do not recall for sure whether I did another Umrah or Tawaf after that, Although I think that was my last Umrah. Few days ago I suddenly remembered about this incident. I regret my actions and realized I shouldn't have felt embarrassed to let them know.a) May I know how do I do Kaffarah for this. I no longer live in Saudi and cannot do another Umrah now. b) Also, if my Umrah was not valid am I still in the state of Ihram? After remembering about this few days ago, I have tried not to intentionally do anything that are prohibited during Ihram. Should I continue to stay so until I do the Kaffarah.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
If you did circumambulation while you were in menses, then there is a difference of opinion about the validity of your ‘Umrah.
What you can do now because of the great difficulty is to act according to the view of the Hanafi School of jurisprudence and a narration from Ahmad, that your circumambulation is valid, and accordingly, your ‘Umrah as well as your going out of the state of Ihraam are valid, and the consequent acts, such as the marriage contract and others, are also valid. However, you have to offer a sacrifice that must be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed among the poor in the vicinity of Al-Harram (of Makkah) because according to the Hanafi School and the second narration on the authority of Ahmad is that purity from menstruation for circumambulation is an obligation and not a condition; therefore, the circumambulation is valid with menstruation but it is obligatory to offer a sacrifice.
If you are unable to slaughter a sacrificial animal, then you have to fast for ten days, and you have to seek the forgiveness of Allah for what you have done, for you should have been bashful of Allah Almighty, for He is more worthy of being bashful of than of the people.
Allah knows best.
