Fatwa CenterWants to marry a girl but is afraid his parents may not agree
Question
Assalam U AlaikumI know a girl who is facing domestic abuse, and the only way to save her is to marry her. However, my parents aren't happy with this decision. They will accept it if I try to convince them, but they won't be happy with it. What would be more pleasing to Allah SWT, saving this girl or pleasing my parents?Jazak Allah
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu`alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
May Allah reward you for your compassion for this girl and your keenness to rid her of the distress in which she is in, and we ask Allah The Exalted to ease her affairs and relieve her anguish.
And if the case is what you have mentioned, that your parents may reluctantly agree if you try to convince them to marry her but they won't be happy with this marriage, then what appears to us - and Allah knows best - is that it is better for you to turn away from the matter of marrying this girl, as your dutifulness to your parents is more worthy and better.
