Fatwa CenterA pregnant woman abstains from living in her marital home because of finding some odors repulsive
Question
Grand Shaykh: my sister is married and is now pregnant and cannot endure the smell of her house and her husband. She does not go to her house; is there any sin on her?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
If the harm she may receive by staying in her husband’s house is easy to endure, she should go back to his house and obey her husband in this respect. But if the harm is too difficult to endure, like some women who vomit everything they eat, or suffer severe headache and continuous pain, then this is an excuse that makes it permissible for her to remain in her family’s house until she passes this stage peacefully. It is due on the husband to take her circumstances into account and help her to endure this state.
