Question
From where does love come; from Allaah The Almighty or from the devil?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
Love was created by Allaah The Almighty, and nothing in this universe, neither good nor evil, can possibly occur against His will. It is true that evil and sins have been predestined to exist, however, this does not mean that Allaah The Almighty approves of them. On the contrary, He is firm and clear in prohibiting them.
Therefore, if you mean by your question the kind of love that exists between spouses, a father and his children, and members of the same family and friends, then this is definitely permissible. Moreover, it is also counted among the good deeds and Allaah The Almighty certainly Wills all that is good. However, if you mean by the word “love” the illegal relationships between men and women that are very common nowadays, then this is certainly unlawful and it comes from the devil in his endeavor to tempt man and make him slip into sin.
