Answering questions about homosexuality

Question

Many ahadis forbids homosexuality and tells us the punishement of Allah (subhanah wa taallah) for these people. But I cannot explain why it is forbidden in Islam. When people ask me I say that Allah has created men for women and women for men, so it is not natural for homosexual to be together. Is that the real answer?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The Islamic position has been stated clearly in Fataawa 88137 and 81381. You should also know that when answering questions about that which you lack knowledge, it is the Sunnah to say “I don't know.” On the other hand, if you know what the Quran and/or Hadeeth states, then you may say something like, “To the best of my knowledge in Islam, such and such is the case.” We are not obligated to convince people, we are obligated to give them the message as best we can. A true believer in Allaah has no doubt that Allaah Alone is the Creator and the Legislator and that He Knows very well what is to the benefit of His slaves. It is surely the case that what He has forbidden is harmful while what he has allowed is beneficial. All His rulings are based on the utmost wisdom. Some people understand this while others do not

Finally, everyone knows that practicing homosexuality is a relapse of human nature and that there are many harms involved, which include:

1-It causes many incurable diseases, such as AIDS.

2-Men turning away from women and to men for sexual enjoyment threatens humanity with extinction, while Allaah created them to flourish on earth and make it inhabited.

Allaah Knows best.
