Fatwa CenterSigns of Judgement Day from Hadith
Question
Provide 5 or more, signs of the Judgement Day that the Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) said and has happened with reference to that event and Hadith.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
The Prophet has mentioned many minor and major signs of the Last Hour. Some of the minor signs have already occurred, namely the ones below:
1. Emergence of a huge fire from Hijaz (a territory in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) which light could be seen in Busrah a city of Syria? The Prophet said: "The Hour will not be established till a fire will come out of the land of Hijaz, and it will throw light on the necks of camels at Busra". This sign occurred as described by the Prophet. The emergence of this fire took place near the mosque of the Prophet at Madina in the year 654 AH, as Imam Ibn Kathir wrote in his book "al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah". The scholar Abu Shama was in that period and wrote this in his book "al-zail wa shartuhu".
2. Power gets in the hands of unfit persons:Abu Huraira said: "While the Prophet was saying something in a gathering, a Bedouin came and asked him, "When would the Hour (Doomsday) take place?" Allah's Apostle continued his talk, so some people said that Allah's Apostle had heard the question, but did not like what that Bedouin had asked. Some of them said that Allah's Apostle had not heard it. When the Prophet finished his speech, he said, "Where is the questioner, who inquired about the Hour (Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said, "I am here, O Allah's Apostle". Then the Prophet said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin said, "How will that be lost?" The Prophet said, "When the power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday.)"
3. Muslims fighting against Turks. The Prophet said: "The Hour will not be established till you fight with the Khudh and the Kirman from among the non-Arabs. They will be of red faces, flat noses and small eyes; their faces will look like flat shields, and their shoes will be of hair." Imam Nawawi said: 'We found in these days the Turk just as the Prophet had informed before'.
4. Greeting known persons only. Imam Ahmad narrated that the Prophet said: "Shortly before the Last Hour people will greet only known persons, trade will be well spread till the woman helps her husband in trading, kin relations will be cut off, false witness will prevail, hiding the truth and the spread of using the pen". It is narrated in another narration that a person will greet another person only when he knows him. One could easily observe all the mentioned matters in the above Hadith and others which are not mentioned here.
5. Competition of Arabs in buildings. The Prophet said in a long Hadith …… "When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master. When the barefooted, destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. One of them asked who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He replied: The Arabs. Competition in building higher buildings is seen now and everyone could easily observe it. We ask Allah's help". Allah knows best.
