Are these ingredients in some foods such as cakes and crisps Halal or Haram?E120, E140, E141, E252, E422, E430, E431, E440, E470, E471, E472 (a), E472 (b), E472 (c), E472 (d), E473, E474, E475, E476, E478, E482, E483, E491, E492, E494, E422 (e), 476, 542, 570, 572, 631 and 653.

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Dear Brother, we are not familiar with the contents and ingredients of many foods which are found in supermarkets these days, especially those with so many artificial additives and coded items. We have located some information that indicates many of the code numbers in your question contain Haram ingredients. Unfortunately we are unable to verify the source or the accuracy of this information, but you can check these matters with your local Islamic center or organization. But here are two general rules that apply when considering whether a material is pure. When these conditions are present, it is considered pure according to Sharia. The rules are as follow: 1. Basically the material itself should be pure or it should become pure after being converted totally to other material and no longer contain any impure elements. 2. Using it should not cause any harm to human body.
