Are we allowed to wipe on the scarf as we do for the socks if we are traveling?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Wiping on the head covering is permissible at the time of necessity. Allah Almighty legislated the rules of Shariah in a way that combines the meaning of worship and at the same time ensures the safety of the person too. The evidence for this is that if a person suffers from an injury in his head and uses a headband in this case, he is allowed to wipe on his headband. The same rule applies to the head covering at the time of necessity. Sheik al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: 'If a woman fears from cold or the like she is allowed to wipe on her head cover Umm Salamah () used to wipe over her head covered. It is recommended to wipe over locks of hair too if one wipes over her head cover. Wiping over head cover without any necessity is not recommended even though some scholars differ on this issue'.
As for socks we would like to inform you that wiping over them is permissible whether a person is on a journey or not.
Allah knows best.
