Assalamoalaikum. I would like you to advise me on a matter of utmost importance. I have become so low in my Eemaan and I am constantly under attack from the Shaytaan, so much so that I have missed prayers. I have committed many major sins. My big problem is that I can't seem to feel remorse for the sins I have committed and therefore I feel that my tawbah will not be accepted by Allah. How do I go about feeling the remorse I should for the things that I have done that have angered Allah. Also, I feel that I may have a problem with Jinn. I havent seen anything or heard anything unusual but I feel like something foreign to me is dwelling inside of me. I become very angry very quickly and when I'm like that I don't feel in control of my actions or sayings. Whenever someone tries to encourage me to do a good deed, I feel averse to the idea. I fear for myself. I have never felt like this before and I worry that I may be slowly losing my religion. Please give this question priority and reply as soon as possible. Please, in this sacred month, help this desperate sister who is in great need of advice.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
What you feel, dear sister, is some of whispers of the devil. So, you should try to ward them off by mentioning Allaah as much as possible and by seeking His forgiveness. Indeed, Satan flees when he hears the mention of Allaah and he runs away when someone seeks refuge in Allaah from his whispers. So, we advise you to recite the Qur'an as much as you can, especially verse 2: 255.
Al-Bukhari reported that Abu Hurayrah said: "The Prophet ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me... till he said:" He said to me, 'Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi [Qur'an 2:255] from the beginning to the end-'Allaahu Laa ilaaha illa huwa Al-Hayyul-Qayyoom..' He further said to me, '(If you do so), Allaah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no devil will come near you till morning."
Know also, dear sister that what you feel is nothing but Satan's insinuations. Abu Daawood reported that the Prophet said: "Praise be to Allaah that He has turned Satan's cunning into mere insinuations or whispers."
Allah knows best.
