Question
I have three brothers who are Muslim and they are practicing homosexuals how do I help them?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Homosexuality is a perversion, an abominable, heinous and despicable act. It is one of the great major sins. Therefore it is an obligation on you to advise these brothers and remind them of Allaah and about the evil fate of such an abominable act in this life and in the Hereafter. You have to advise them with wisdom and speak to them in a soft and gentle manner. Behave with them as if you are a doctor advising a patient. First seek the help of Allaah then the help of whomever you think could influence them to become righteous. If advice is of no avail, and you think that cutting relationship with them could be beneficial, then there is no harm in doing so. If you do your duty which is advising them then you are not sinful because of what they do. Allaah says (which means): {And when they [i.e. those advised] forgot that by which they had been reminded, We saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wronged, with a wretched punishment, because they were defiantly disobeying.}[7:165]
