Question
What is the ruling of listening to the Quran while at work, considering that the work is simple and does not prevent one from listening? If a colleague refuses to listen continuously to the Quran on the grounds that he is thinking on other subjects and cannot concentrate on the Quran, is he right?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
On one hand your colleague is right but on the other hand he is wrong. He is right in saying that one should ponder and think about the Quran when reciting it or listening to it. But he is wrong in saying that because he cannot concentrate on the Quran due to thinking on other subjects, he would prevent others and even himself from listening to it. Running the tape of the Quran even when not concentrating on it, is better than not listening to it at all.
