Question
Is it permissible to perform Ruqyah by playing a tape and putting water beside it?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Ruqyah cannot be achieved by listening to recorded tapes without a person performing the Ruqyah, even though it is good to listen to the Quran tapes. This is the principle proven by evidence and which the scholars
acted upon. There are three pillars for Ruqyah: (1) The person who performs Ruqyah, (2) the means used during Ruqyah (3) The person on whom Ruqyah is performed. The effect of Ruqyah is dependant on the piety and righteousness of the person who performs it, and this is something that could not be achieved by recorded tapes, whether the Ruqyah is performed on a person, on water, on oil and so forth.
