She made a vow that she would fast if her wish was fulfilled

Question

assalamwalaikum, i made dua that if my wish will be fulfilled i will keep fasting. I heard that we should keep two roza instead of one roza for any wish. If it is true please let me know on which day of week i should keep roza.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Saying that it is obligatory to fast two days whenever a wish comes true is not correct and we do not know anyone of the scholars who said it. We should tell you that your saying "I made Du'aa' that if my wish will be fulfilled I will keep fasting" may be a vow that must be fulfilled. That is because fasting is an act of worship; so if you make a conditional vow of fasting, then it is obligatory to fulfill it whenever the condition is fulfilled.

However, a vow cannot be valid except if it is done with the wording of vowing or another wording that indicates commitment such as saying: "I vow to do such-and-such, or It is my duty towards Allaah to do such-and-such, or I will do such and such (of acts of worship) if such and such happened to me." If it is a vow, then it can be fulfilled through fasting only one day, unless you have intended to fast a specific number of days for you will have to fulfill what you have intended.

Kindly, refer to Fatwa 89891 about the dislikeability of making a conditional vow and the obligation of fulfilling it.

Allaah Knows best.
