Essalaamou aleikum wa rahmatul lahi wa barakatuh I ask Allah for his guidance mercy and forgiveness for myself and all believers. I have epilepsy and all praises is to Allah for he has been merciful and I get my seizures only at night mostly while I am in bed but once almost two years ago I got a seizure while I was outside and fell on my head and hit the pavement hard and stopped breeding and injured my head and woke up in an ambulance. My question is it haraam for me to wear a medical id necklace or bracelet with information about my condition medications, as such because that is something medics are train to look for here in the west when they see an unconscious person. I from what I understand it is haraam for a man to adorn himself with necklaces and whatnot because that would be emulating women but in my case it is not my intention to imitate women I just want to manage my epilepsy. I thank you beforehand and ask Allah to reward you guide you, myself and all muslims on the straight and narrow path to jannah.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
We pray to Allaah, The Exalted, for your wellness and safety against all types of affliction. We advise you to keep patient and supplicate Allaah to bless you with recovery. You should also have good thoughts about your Lord. Verily, Allaah, The Exalted, is as His slave believes He is. You should know that Allaah, The Exalted, is able to do all things and there is nothing that is difficult for Him.
You are advised to consult doctors and specialists and recite the Islamic Ruqyah regularly, for it is beneficial by the permission of Allaah. Please refer to Fataawa 88705 and 91355 about treating epilepsy with Ruqyah. Please also refer to Fatwa 83577 about the wisdom behind afflictions and the virtue of patience.
As for wearing a necklace or bracelet, if such a necklace or bracelet is worn for beautification purposes, it is considered imitation of women (which is forbidden in Islam). However, there is nothing wrong with wearing medical necklaces or bracelets that are worn for medical reasons and are not of the type mentioned above.
Allaah Knows best.
