Question
We have a maid whom we treat well but she has been stealing some of my belongings. She denies it every time and I am afraid that she may cast a magic spell on us because she is ill-mannered and malicious. What should we do?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
If these are the manners of your maid then perhaps it is better to get rid of her so that you can protect the home from such bad behavior and your property from being stolen every now and then. Also, such manners may affect your children who may imitate her manners.
You should not be afraid of any human because all matters take place according to the Will of Allaah the Almighty. People cannot harm or benefit themselves or any other person, except according to the Will of Allaah. Abiding by the ordinances of Allaah, reciting the Holy Quran and supplicating regularly are sufficient protection. We ask Allaah to bless you and guide you to what pleases Him.
