Question
I want to learn tajweed but there are many rules involved in it. Because I am just starting, is it permissible for me to read the Quran in arabic with one rule applied at first until I feel comfortable with it, and then move on to other rules? Or should I only read it once I learn full tajweed so as not to disrespect it? If I should follow the second suggestion, how should I go about learning and practicing tajweed?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
There is no harm on you for reciting the Quran without being familiar with all the rules of the recitation of the Quran.
We have already highlighted in many previous Fatawa that reciting with the rules of the recitation is not obligatory as long as a person recites the letters with their proper vowels [like Fat'hah, Dhammah, Kasrah, and Sukoon] and articulates the letters from their places of articulation. The other matters, such as Madd, Ghunnah, and the like, are only desirable.
We advise you, dear questioner, to strive to recite the Quran and learn its rules of recitation, as by this, you will achieve the happiness of this world and the Hereafter.
We also stress to learn these rules of recitation orally and directly from Shaykhs.

For more benefit that not articulating (pronouncing) a letter of the Quran properly does not affect the validity of the prayer, please refer to Fatawa 443569, 370603 and 223990.
