What are the best provisions and good deeds required for the Day of Judgment?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
There is no doubt that the Day of Judgment is the day which we should always remember and be prepared for every second of our lives, since the wise person is the one who calls himself to account and does good deeds to benefit him after his death. Allaah The Almighty commands us to prepare ourselves for such a day, Saying (what means): {And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allaah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly.} [Quran 2:281]
The best things to save us on the Day of Judgment are the observance of the obligatory acts of worship and the eschewing of prohibitions. In a Qudsi (Sacred) Hadeeth narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah Allaah The Almighty Says: “…And the most beloved thing with which My slave draws nearer to Me is what I have enjoined upon him; and My Slave keeps on drawing closer to Me through performing supererogatory acts of worship until I love him…” [Al-Bukhari]
Therefore, when one observes all the obligatory acts of worship, he should also perform supererogatory acts of worship as much as he is able to. For example, if he is wealthy, he should give constantly in charity; if he is a scholar, he should teach people and invite them to Allaah The Almighty; if he is strong, he should fight in the cause of Allaah The Almighty; if he is noble, he should use his status in serving Muslims, and so on.
Moreover, one must be sincere to Allaah The Almighty and follow the guidance of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, in all he does.
Allaah Knows best.
